£14 Million Family Home Breaks Mould And Wins Best Luxury House

Each year WhatHouse.co.uk hosts the House Builder Awards to recognise the best developers in the UK Housing Market and award those with vision and skills for building unique and desirable properties.

Each year WhatHouse.co.uk Property Portal host the WhatHouse? Awards, which are recognised as being the most prestigious and longest running awards for new house builders in the UK. As well as awards for best house builder and other related awards, they also have a category for Best Luxury House.

As WhatHouse.co.uk gears up for the 2012 awards the website has been taking a look back at last year's winners, in particular the awards for best Luxury House.

The gold in the 2011 awards was handed to Octagon, for their design and build of a bespoke family home in the super rich and exclusive area of St George's Hill in Surrey, UK. This contemporary family home was designed exclusively for the owner and covers 10,000 square feet and came with a price tag of £14 million!

The house has only 5 bedrooms but each is massive in size and has a luxury ensuite bathroom. There is staff accommodation and a full leisure and spa area with a chromotherapy infinity bath with oxygen massage. And naturally a cigar smoking room complete with built-in humidor and a special ventilation system.

But what grabbed the judge's attention with this house was the unusual outdoor features, which include a Finnish style bathhouse, a wood burning pizza oven and a wildlife pond with a small electrically pumped spring, which is home to the family's pet sturgeon.

Taking second place was another house of similar value in the same location but built by a different developer, Consero. The house called 'treetops' took 3 years to build and complete and was a work of art. It looks out over the private golf course and also has views of the Surrey countryside.

The Bronze award went to Oakdene developers for a house in Cheshire. This house combined the new and old and was set within 3 acres and had a guide price of £5 million once complete. The house offers an open plan design with a double height entrance hall, formal dining area and fantastic views of the gardens and the leisure complex situated in the gardens. A circular staircase goes down from the house to an underground passageway with coloured lighting and a glass ceiling, which doubles as a terrace. The passage way leads to the leisure suite which has all you would expect from such a luxury property.

WhatHouse.co.uk has already launched its application brochure for this year's awards and with some truly unique and outstanding properties being built, it will be interesting to see what appears in the running for the awards in a few months time.

WhatHouse? Has had a busy year, launching its mortgages page as well as its Rental Portal.
