1E Announces NightWatchman 6.0 - The Next Generation Market-Leading PC Power Management Solution

With 4.6m licenses sold worldwide, NightWatchman has saved $530 million in energy costs

1E, a software and services company that improves IT efficiency, today announced the release of version 6.0 of its enterprise-class PC power management solution, NightWatchman®. NightWatchman is a fundamental component of 1E's efficient IT software suite, which seeks to identify and reduce IT waste, in hardware, software, energy and time.

Recommended by Microsoft as a best-of-breed solution for desktop power management, NightWatchman® is today the world's most comprehensive software for securely, remotely and centrally power managing PCs and Macs. Organizations can significantly lower energy costs without impacting user productivity by powering down computers remotely and automatically overnight and at weekends, immediately reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

"Year on year, we know that with the use of NightWatchman, we're reducing our carbon emissions and exposure to carbon liability," comments says Paul Toyne, Head of Sustainability, Bovis Lend Lease. "There are innovations coming from 1E that will lead to the more effective deployment and use of IT systems, for example version 6.0 of NightWatchman." Watch the Bovis Lend Lease video here.

NightWatchman 6.0 includes:

• Enterprise View web-based dashboard - designed for senior managers, to give a high-level view of power use and savings at-a-glance. It is fully configurable, with tiles available for NightWatchman, WakeUp and NightWatchman Server Edition

• Location-based tariffs - NightWatchman Management Center employs energy tariffs specific to geographical location and energy provider. This, in addition to energy consumption calculations specific to the exact make and model of a machine takes NightWatchman reporting accuracy to a new level, making it the most comprehensive solution on the market today

• Enhanced sleepless client detection built-in intelligence to ensure that PCs are being power managed when not in use, enabling greater savings

"PCs and peripherals consume more energy than any other ICT group. Buying more energy-efficient PCs is a good start, but the most substantial reductions in energy consumption result from transferring the PC to lower power states when they're not in use," comments Terrence Cosgrove, Principal Research Analyst, Gartner. "Therefore, we believe that by 2012, more than 50% of midsize and large organizations will centrally manage desktop power states," he concludes.

NightWatchman has been licensed across 4.6 million PCs around the world, saving on average £25/$36 per PC per year. Since its launch, NightWatchman has cumulatively saved its customers GBP £350 / USD $530 million in energy savings, which represents savings of 5.6 million megawatts of electricity or 4 million metric tons of CO2 emissions.

"We are committed to leading the charge against IT waste and enabling greater IT efficiencies for all our customers," comments Sumir Karayi, CEO, 1E "We are proud of NightWatchman's best-in-class, proven track record in fostering both cost and energy savings in organizations of all sizes, across all industries."
