2011 AIDS Olympics Launch in Washington DC
Online, March 14, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Las Vegas, Nevada- AIDS Awareness Poets, Inc. in partnership with The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation, BET's RAP-IT-UP, United States Department of Human Services, Dorothea McGuire Foundation, GreaterThanAids.org and The Woman's Collective, is pleased to present the first annual AIDS Olympics.
The events (March 18th) will take place in the historic Benjamin Banneker Park, 10th & G streets, Washington, SW DC and (March 19th, 2011) at Inner Light Ministries, 1312 Clifton Street, Washington DC, 20009. Created by community and internationally known AIDS activist Devin T. Robinson X, this first of its kind event involves a 40-yard dash, 100-meter race, 200-meter race, 1-mile race and live poetry competition. Participants from around the globe will compete for the purpose of encouraging people to learn more about HIV/AIDS and its impact on a global scale while helping decrease the stigma associated with the disease and taking time to reflect on those who have passed as well as those who are currently infected and affected by HIV/AIDS through arts and athletics.
