The 15th annual World Wild Game Championship and Barbeque
Cook-off benefiting the Yaga's Children's Fund will be held Friday, May 13th &
Saturday, May 14th at Pier 21, off Harborside Drive on beautiful Galveston Island.
Everyone is invited to participate. The competition is an excellent way for
backyard chefs, sportsmen and women, and outdoor enthusiasts to show off
their culinary skills and enjoy some good 'ole fashion fun, fellowship and food.
All proceeds benefit various children's charities of Galveston County. The
2010 event raised over $100,000 for 20 charities including Gulf Coast Big
Brothers & Big Sisters, Advocacy Center for Children, Boy Scouts, Developmental
Momentum, and The Family Service Center, to name a few.
The two-day, family-oriented event kicks off Friday evening at the
Sponsor Party. Festivities include an appetizing fajita buffet, free flowing beer, a
huge silent auction and a chance to preview the chefs at work. Come out and
enjoy the fun while listening to great Texas music from live local bands, and,
peruse the silent auction featuring items for everyone.
Saturday begins with the "Run Wild 5K" at 8:30am, starting at Float Patio & Pool Bar (2828 Seawall Blvd). Entry fee is $25 and includes T-shirt, souvenir koozie and cup, and Saturday lunch ticket at main event site. Registration is available now online at www.yagaschildrensfund.org
Saturday afternoon at Pier 21, festival-goers of all ages can stroll freely amongst the rows of smoking pits competing in five cooking divisions: Chicken, Ribs, Brisket, Seafood, a Ladies category and of course: Wild Game. First through fifth place finishes will be awarded in each division as well as a trophy going to the cook team with best showmanship.
There is plenty for children to do in the giant "Kids Area." Moon walks,
face painters, pony rides and much more is available for all children starting at
noon. Hungry? Volunteers will be selling mouth-watering barbeque sandwiches for a nominal fee. While eating, relax and enjoy more great music from talented local bands.
