2012 Leadership Development & Talent Strategy Forecast
Online, January 2, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The Human Capital Media Research and Advisory Services Group has released their Leadership Development and Talent Strategies Forecast Report. The leadership report was generated from their annual Leadership Development survey, led by the Business Intelligence Board of the Chief Learning Officer magazine. over one hundred-fifty executive leaders shared their leadership development and talent strategies for the upcoming year.
The top 5 skills targeted for executive leadership identified as:
• Strategic planning 51.4%
• Business acumen 50.0%
• Coaching 48.6%
• Communication 47.2%
• Employee engagement 38.9%
"Succession planning" was a close 37.5%. Participating companies distinguish strengthening current leaders and developing up and coming leaders with the overall success of their companies. To support this, 44% of participants identified increased spending on leadership training and development, although less than 50% of them stated that they do not have a validated, proven solution to accomplish these targets.
The top 5 areas these organizations will focus on for Management Development will be:
• Communication 61.8%
• Coaching 51.4%
• Conflict management 43.1%
• Employee engagement 43.1%
• Business acumen 39.6%
Communication, coaching and employee engagement ranked among the top 5 focus for both management and leadership training. This came as no surprise to David Lahey, President, Predictive Success.

The study also showed that 30% of these companies are struggling to align leadership development process with business strategy!

Further, while only 8.2% of participants stated that they had streamless design and planning of their leadership development programs in the areas of talent acquisition, succession planning, retention and management functions, more than half of them plan to make integration a priority in the coming year.
