2013 Honda Civic Excels at Safety Tests
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety declared the latest Civic a Top Safety Pick+, their highest ranking.
Online, March 15, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Among the many updates Honda made for the 2013 Civic, David Hobbs Honda is proud to announce that it looks as though some of them pushed the popular Honda into a new bracket of safety excellence from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
To start with, the new Civic is the first small car to earn the IIHS's Top Safety Pick+ award, a brand new level in safety evaluation.
Such praise is not easy to come by, however; vehicles need to excel in many aspects of safety, including a brand new 40 mph impact with a small stationary object - to simulate a telephone pole - referred to as a front offset collision test.
The front offset test is the main thing that separates the older Top Safety Pick award from Top Safety Pick+, although vehicles must also earn the highest rating available - "good" - at least four other tests that include rollover, overlap and side impact collisions, and the effectiveness of head and seat restraints. Furthermore, Honda's small car had to earn a rating of at least "acceptable" in the small front overlap collision test.
Part of the upgrades that Honda included for the 2013 model year were structural, reinforcing the Civic's frame and likely responsible for its IIHS success, but Honda has done so much more to revamp the Civic.
What may seem like amenities and comfort features at first - including standard equipment in the form of Honda's i-MID system, Bluetooth phone and audio, SMS text messaging, a rearview camera, and more - are also passive ways of improving the safety behind the wheel of a Civic by reducing driver distraction.
For drivers seeking more information about the 2013 Civic, including the IIHS safety record and scheduling a test drive, they can contact the sales team at David Hobbs Honda. Their sales team is on site six days a week, and in addition to their brand new Honda vehicles, the dealership also features a wide range of pre-owned cars, trucks, and SUVs at their 6100 North Green Bay Avenue location in Glendale, Wisconsin.
