25-Hour Game Raise $23,000 for Charity 333 Goals Scored In Historic Game
Forty-four hockey players hit the ice for the first-ever 25-hour hockey game. Team Great Skate pulled away at the end with a 173-160 victory over Team Reebok in the longest hockey game in the United States.
Online, March 22, 2011 (Newswire.com) - East Aurora, NY- Last Friday, March 18th, forty-four hockey players hit the ice for the first-ever 25-hour hockey game. Team Great Skate pulled away at the end with a 173-160 victory over Team Reebok in the longest hockey game in the United States.
This charity event raised $23,000 for the not-for-profit Aurora Ice Association. These funds will help support capital improvements to the Time Warner Cable Classic Rink, including the construction of a concrete pad for the ice surface. Sabres Alumni Danny Gare and former Buffalo Bill, Steve Tasker, participated in the event.
While the majority of players rotating ice time every two hours during the 25-hour game, one player, Marc Cancilla, never left the ice during the marathon game. It is estimated that Marc scored 35 goals during the game.

The Aurora Ice Association (AIA) purchased the ice making equipment from the NHL Winter Classic and built a tribute rink in the center of the Village of East Aurora. The East Aurora Classic rink was acquired and built with private donations and volunteerism. Hundreds of local residents came forth to provide in-kind good and services, including excavation, construction materials, and manpower
