3 ACE Scholars Will Attend CU Thanks to Prestigious Caddie Scholarship

Of the 13 Colorado students awarded the 2020 Evans Scholarship, a full college tuition and housing scholarship offered to golf caddies, three are ACE scholars.

“We encounter so many hard-working and dedicated students at ACE,” says Norton Rainey, ACE Scholarships president and CEO. “So it comes as no surprise that three of our ACE scholars have earned a coveted 2020 Evans Scholarship.” Each year, the Evans Scholarship Foundation chooses scholars based on a strong caddie record, excellent grades, outstanding character, and a demonstrated financial need. Once selected, Evans Scholars in Colorado receive a full four-year college tuition and housing scholarship to the University of Colorado in Boulder.

“I am so excited to have received this wonderful scholarship,” says Natalia, one of the three ACE scholars to earn an Evans Scholarship. “I am transferring into the school of Education program at CU to become an educator. I want to thank ACE Scholarships for helping my family and me for so many years; I will never forget all the people that have helped me get to where I am!”

The Western Golf Association has supported the Chick Evans Scholarship Program through the Evans Scholars Foundation since 1930. Currently, a record 1,010 caddies are enrolled in 18 universities across the nation as Evans Scholars, and more than 11,050 caddies have graduated as Evans Scholars since the program was founded by famed Chicago amateur golfer Charles “Chick” Evans Jr.

“Working over the summer as a golf caddy is such an amazing opportunity for kids,” says Rainey. “Kids earn great pay, they interact with entrepreneurs and business leaders, and most importantly, caddying helps them develop character. This is evidenced in young people like Natalia, as well as former Evans Scholarships recipients like our good friend George Solich. George received an Evans Scholarship back in 1979 and majored in mineral land management at CU. Now George is a leader in the energy industry and a supporter of numerous education causes, including ACE Scholarships. All of us at ACE look forward to this new group of Evans Scholars following in George’s footsteps. We can’t wait to see where this new opportunity takes them.”

Evans Scholarship funds come mostly from contributions by 32,500 golfers across the country, who are members of the Evans Scholars Par Club program. Evans Scholars Alumni donate more than $14 million annually, and all proceeds from the BMW Championship, the third of four PGA TOUR Playoff events in the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup competition, are donated to the Evans Scholars Foundation.
