40th Annual Seawall Art Show
Online, August 20, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Portsmouth, Virginia - The 40th Annual Seawall Art Show, at the High Street Landing, in Olde Towne Portsmouth, is a fine arts and fine crafts show featuring some 90 juried artists and organized by a group of committed community volunteers. The 2010 Seawall Art Show will be judged by Ms. Deborah McLeod, independent curator and fine arts consultant, has been active as a curator of contemporary art throughout Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Maryland for the past 25 years. Artists vie for more than $9000.00 in awards, including Best in Show. The show is supported by the Portsmouth Museum and Fine Arts Commission. Proceeds from the 40th Annual Seawall Art Show support the arts in Portsmouth.
The show is a two-day outdoor event which is held, rain or shine, at High Street Landing and the 100 block of High Street. The Portsmouth Seawall and surrounds offer a pedestrian area conducive to browsing and walking. This sold-out 2010 show features work by more than 90 artists from up and down the Eastern Seaboard. Fine arts and crafts will be featured with media offered in oils, pastels, water color, acrylics, pen and ink, pencil, fiber, fun jewelry, blown glass, lamp work, blown glass, wooden wares, pottery, photography, and metal. In addition, the Seawall Art Show Student Show and Sale takes place on opening day and features work by area public school students. Admission is free and there is plenty of free parking offered on the street and in public parking garages both days of the event.
Performances by local performing arts professionals will be provided, at no cost, for entertainment and shopping pleasure during the show. Performances will include Rhythm Project, Rhythm Kings, Tidewater Symphony Band, Fleet Jazz Band, Jim Newsom, and the Doorway Singers. In the 2008 Sunshine Artist (the national publication which covers this kind of show), "you can expect to see a lot of art-savvy buyers." According to the reviewer, "most come to buy and not just kick tires." Attendance annually exceeds 15,000 art patrons.
