6 Design Tips To Improve Click-Through On Google Preview

Google Preview signals another change to search engine marketing. Simple design changes can help you take advantage of Google Preview to improve click through and conversion on your search marketing activities.

Yet another day with yet another change from search engine giant Google. Google Preview was recently launched with the introduction of an additional magnifying glass next to each search result on Google. Google Preview essentially offers users an ability to preview a website's content without needing to click onto the webiste - its really a "mini preview".

So how will this change impact search engine marketing?

Managing Director of aoom - art of online marketing - consultancy, Chloe Lim said: "Google Preview will potentially impact conversion of a website's search engine marketing activity simply because it provides another, more visual dimension for a search engine user to decide whether to visit the website. As businesses, we all know how important conversion is in the search marketing equation."

Right now, more than ever first impression counts! By extension, design of the website becomes even more important.

"While we wouldn't advocate changing the entire website design or user interface of your website for Google Preview, it is important to understand and appreciate the importance of enhancing your website design so that you don't get penalised or miss out any opportunities to improve click through on Google Preview" Chloe Lim added.

aoom consultancy has outlined some designing tips to make Google Preview work for websites. Below are 6 key designing tips to improve click through on Google Preview

1. Be aware that flash content may not show up in Google Preview. If you have critical content, you might want to find a different way to present it.

2. Remember it is not just homepage of your website that will show up on Google Preview. Any of the indexed pages on your website can show up on the search results page. If you are making any changes for Google Preview, you will need to consider design elements across a wide range of web pages.

3. As the size of the preview is relatively small, ensure website branding and logos are distinctive and placed top of page. This way, it is easier for existing customers to recognise your website and you can also help drive brand awareness.

4. Use colours that will contrast against Google's background. It is more distinctive and makes it easier for a user to see and read.

5. Layout and use of white space becomes even more important on each webpage. Its gives a sense of structure to the page and makes it easier to "read" (scan)

6. Font size and length of page titles should be considered. A relevant headline or title that appeals to the consumer will drive better click through.
