84-Mile Road to Victory
More than 1,300 runners will race in the 2nd Annual Market to Market Relay from Omaha to Lincoln.

* The Market to Market endurance relay race will begin at 6 a.m. on Oct. 10, 2009 in The Old Market in Omaha, Neb. and end at Haymarket in Lincoln, Neb.
* The race will take 165 teams of 6 to 8 runners, across 21 sections. Each section will be between 2.5 and 5.5 miles. To see each section in detail, visit the stage page.

Story Ideas:

* Novice, 10-minute-mile runners will take to the trails alongside Olympic-qualifying runners such as 2009 World Track and Field Championship 1500 meter runner Peter Van Der Westhuizen and three-time, US Olympic Marathon-qualifier Christy Nielsen.
* Again this year, 10 percent of all entry fees will go to local Nebraska non-profits with the majority supporting the Nebraska Trails Foundation. A recent research study conducted in Neb. found that for every $1 invested in a trail system, the surrounding community receives almost $3 in direct medical benefit. Learn more about the study here.
* Nebraska Orthopaedic Hospital will be the presenting sponsor for the second year in a row, supporting the race with medical and training facilities along the race.

"This event has become very popular. We had to start a lottery process for new teams and we sold out of returning team spots one and a half hours," said Ben Cohoon, race director. "I believe that this race has become extremely popular for two reasons: one, it is a team event and two, it is unique in the Midwest. There is nothing else like it."

"We had a great time last year," said Tom Macy, chief executive officer of Nebraska Orthopaedic Hospital. "We are excited to help out again this year. We are the defending champs, so watch out, we have four teams competing this year."
