99% of Newborns Need Pediatric Chiropractic Care

A new study shows a high incidence of injury to a newborns spine following birth. These injuries have been linked to a number of health challenges down the road. Due to the lack of proper evaluation to detect these injuries at birth it is recommended to seek out care from a pediatric focused chiropractor or osteopath.

In a recent study published in The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association it was found that 99% of the newborns examined had some type of muscle or joint dysfunction. A pediatric chiropractic evaluation and subsequent appropriate care may lead to less health complications and shorter hospital stay.

Muscle and joint dysfunction in the newborn can lead to several health challenges including difficulty nursing/latching, torticollis, ear infections, colic, and difficulty sleeping. When muscle and joint dysfunction occur in the newborn it is often overlooked. Newborns are unable to describe their symptoms and the medical evaluations they do receive are not detailed enough to detect these sometimes subtle imbalances. For these reasons it is imperative that newborns are evaluated by a chiropractor or osteopath that specializes in pediatrics. These are the only professionals with the adequate training experience to detect these issues. Dr. Arpad Denagy, MD, of The Rockefeller Institute says "Interference to the nervous system results in damage within a short period of time and, therefore, chiropractic care should begin at birth on a preventive basis". If joint or muscle dysfunction is detected the correction for the issue is a chiropractic adjustment or osteopathic manipulation. When performed by a specialist this is gentle, non invasive, and well tolerated by the newborn. The sooner these issues are detected and corrected the faster and more effectively they are resolved. The severity of the issue determines the frequency and duration of the care. This will be determined following the examination.

Proper joint and muscle function are key indicators in measuring overall health. Unfortunately these indicators are not properly evaluated in newborns which may lead to a cascade of health issues down the road. Due to the high incidence of muscle and joint dysfunction in newborns it is strongly recommended that all newborns are evaluated by a pediatric chiropractor or pediatric osteopath.
