The University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Program of Fairfield County and the Connecticut Master Gardener Association will sponsor their 9th Annual Gardening Fair on Sunday, August 14, 2011 from 12:30 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

This free event requires no pre-registration and offers the public an opportunity to learn about sustainable gardening activities and practices. There will be multiple presentations by gardening experts on such topics as Critter Control, and the Good Bug-Bad Bugs balance between pests and the beneficial insects in our gardens. Many information booths will be set up to cover a variety of topics including beekeeping, wildflowers, annuals/containers gardening, composting and soil, vegetables and herbs, invasives, turf care, ferns, power tools for gardeners, and low-toxic gardening approaches. Join us for a perennial walk through gardens planted by Master Gardeners and learn about the plants, their habits, and how they contribute to the curb appeal of the property.

This year's fair will feature the acclaimed Master Gardener Round Table, an interactive forum where Master Gardeners will be available to offer their expertise and experience in a formal question and answer session during the fair. "Visitors are encouraged to bring a soil sample as we are offering free soil pH testing", says Sandi Wilson, Fairfield County Master Gardener Coordinator. Please contact the MG office at 203-207-3262 on how to properly prepare your soil sample for testing during the fair.

Free refreshments, demonstrations, a free plant raffle, the sale of gently used gardening books and other garden related activities are planned for those who attend this eagerly awaited annual gardening event.

The Fair will be held on the grounds of the Fairfield County Extension Center at 67 Stony Hill Road in Bethel, CT, less than a mile from Exit 8 on I-84. Call the Master Gardener office with questions at (203) 207-3262. Additional Information will be available at the Fair website: www.bethelgardenfair.org
