Teich Garden Systems LLC announced today the completion of a new outdoor garden classroom at Saddle Rock Elementary School in Great Neck, New York. The garden was funded by a generous grant from the PTA. The project was spearheaded by Science Teacher Janene Rowland and was greatly supported by Principle Nezowitz.

The 256 square foot garden includes a paved area that provides universal access and can accommodate students for garden demonstrations and classes. A planting day was held on September 19th with TGS's Garden Event Leader, Brian Carney, providing an educational and entertaining experience for the students. Students planted lettuce, bok choy, kale, Swiss chard, beans and radishes. The crop is expected to be harvested and enjoyed by the students later this Fall.

Ms. Rowland stated "A school garden can deepen children's sense of connection with nature and help inspire environmental stewardship. The future of our planet is something I am personally passionate about and hope to strongly impact the students I teach and ultimately, instill within them a sense of purpose, caring, understanding and sharing. It is imperative that my students get outside and enjoy the wonders of nature so that one day, when they become productive citizens in our society, they will have a vested interest in our natural world and therefore support, encourage, and create laws that protect our environment. I truly believe our gardening program will enhance our science curriculum, benefit our students, our community as a whole, as well as our future, for many years to come. Thank you Teich Gardens for helping to bring this project to Saddle Rock!"

Mark Teich, founder of TGS, noted, "We are thrilled to have been selected by Saddle Rock Elementary to design and build their garden and to participate in their planting day. Principal Nezowitz, Ms. Rowland and the entire Saddle Rock team were a pleasure to work with. The low-maintenance features of our system will enable teachers and students to focus their energies on the joys of gardening and what the gardening experience can teach rather than garden upkeep. We welcome Saddle Rock, its faculty and students to the growing community of TGS Gardeners."
