A "Classroom In Every Garden" Pulls Into Austin Road
Online, July 26, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Teich Garden Systems LLC announced today the completion of a new garden system at Austin Road Elementary School in Mahopac, New York. The garden was generously donated by the Austin Road PTO which covered the entire cost of the garden. The project was spearheaded by the building principal, Jim Gardineer, and was greatly supported by PTO President Amy Riguzzi, Treasurer Sue Downey and the entire PTO Executive Board.
The Austin Road garden includes an approximately 275 square foot paved area that provides universal access and can accommodate a large group of students for garden demonstrations and classes and has approximately 675 square feet of planting space. There are also two rolling universal access beds. An opening ceremony and planting day will be held when school opens for the fall semester.
Mr. Gardineer stated, "I am very excited about our new school garden and the tremendous potential that it has to enhance the learning environment at Austin Road. The garden represents a fantastic resource for our students and faculty, and for families of the Austin Road community. We are committed to making this a very innovative and successful part of our school environment. I would like to thank our PTO for making this project possible and Teich Garden Systems for their superior craftsmanship and professionalism throughout the entire project."
Mark Teich, founder of TGS, noted, "We are thrilled to have been contacted by Principal Gardineer to build the Austin Road garden. TGS was able to work with him to create a garden to serve the school community for years to come. The low-maintenance features of the garden will enable teachers and students to focus their energies on the joys of gardening and what the gardening experience can teach. We look forward to joining the school community for the planting day when school is back in session."
