A Good Food Garden™ Crops Up In Winston-Salem
Online, May 22, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Teich Garden Systems LLC announced the completion of a new Good Food Garden™ at the International Corps Boys & Girls Club in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The garden was sponsored by Scripps Networks Interactive and its Food Network together with Time Warner Cable. The garden provides a platform to give kids hands-on learning about where food comes from and to improve their nutritional knowledge. The Winston-Salem garden is the 37th Good Food Garden built by Teich Garden Systems around the country and the third in North Carolina.
Employees of Scripps Networks and members of the Boys & Girls Club planted tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, pole beans and corn.
"The Winston-Salem demographic region ranked first in the nation last year for most families with children being food insecure," said Dianne Blackwood, area vice president of operations, Time Warner Cable Greensboro. "One of the most important things we can do to help overcome childhood hunger is educate families about healthy eating and provide access to nutritious foods."
Mark Teich, founder of TGS, noted, "Through this Good Food Garden, Scripps Networks Interactive, their charitable partner, Share Our Strength, and Time Warner Cable are making an investment in the long-term health of this community. We are thrilled to continue to be a part of this nationwide initiative. Enabling children to participate in this type of garden program can lead to them sampling foods they might not otherwise try and broaden their tastes which can change their eating habits for the rest of their lives."
