FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A Humpback whale has taken up residence at Westinghouse High School!

A life size model of a humpback whale is being built this Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 9:00am at Westinghouse High School. The Westinghouse High School's Science Club has volunteered to help Deanna LaSusa-Hotchner, head of Our World Underwater Scuba Show's Children's Program, build the whale to educate kids about humpbacks.

Saturday, 1/9/10, will be the third and final building session where Westinghouse High School Science Club students and scuba divers from the Chicago Scuba Meetup Group will be putting the finishing touches on the humpback. This will be a 'dress rehearsal' for the sixty-foot long whale where lighting and music will be tested.

The whale is inflatable so people will be able to walk inside and see its internal anatomy the high school students have designed and constructed. On view will be a life sized brain, heart, lung and baleen. People will be treated to the famous humpback whale songs while touring the whale, which is affectionately named 'Harry'.

In addition to learning about humpback whales the Science Club students will be trained on public speaking and how to educate others about the whales. The Science Club will introduce 'Harry the Humpback' at an upcoming school-wide assembly. 'Harry' will be showcased at Our World Underwater Scuba Show's Children's Program at the Donald Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL from February 19 - 21, 2010. Westinghouse High School Science Club members will be on hand to teach other kids what they have learned about humpbacks and take kids on a tour of 'Harry'. It is hoped that through education projects like these people will become more interested in preserving amazing animals such as humpback whales. Thank you Westinghouse High School students!
