New Children's Book Takes On A Hot-Button Issue

In a first-of-its kind exploration into an issue that impacts hundreds of thousands of American families, "What Can You Do With Two Mommies" (ISBN: 978-1-105-50649-9) examines what for some children is the most difficult and contentious hurdle they'll face being raised by two mothers.

Written by a woman who was raised by two mothers, Tara Theresa Hill, "What Can You Do With Two Mommies" is a story about what it is like to grow up with gay parents told from a child's perspective. Annie is forced to confront the fact that she does not have a daddy when her friend, Emily, brings up the subject one day after school. Through conversations with her mothers, Annie discovers that there are many different types of families in the world. Rather than explain why she does not have a daddy, she tells Emily about what it is like to have two mommies instead.

"What Can You Do With Two Mommies started out as a class assignment in college. I had chosen to write a book instead of doing another long analytical report. I sat at my desk and
thought about a few options. I didn't just want to write a standard children's book about the alphabet or numbers. I wanted to write something different. First, I decided to write about
family because that is a huge theme in elementary education. Then I had another idea. What if I wrote about my family?" says Hill.

"Growing up, I didn't get to talk about my family a lot. I saw that most other kids had moms and dads, and that my family was different. I came up with the idea for What Can You Do With Two
Mommies in one of my college courses. The title says it all. This was a way for me to explain to other people what it was like to grow up with two mothers," says Hill.

"What Can You Do with Two Mommies" marks the first title release for Tara Theresa Hill. The book can now be purchased at www.lulu.com. It will be available on Amazon.com April 23rd 2012.
