A Victorian Haunting Experience (3rd Annual)
October 30th, reality is far, far stranger than make-believe. Come, if you dare, to the Third Annual "A Victorian Haunting Experience", and join Fox Siblings, Amy & Paul as they draw back the veil on the darker side of Victorian life... and Death!
Online, September 10, 2010 (Newswire.com) - This fall, the charming historic town of Saline, Michigan hosts a very special treat for lovers of the darker side of Victoriana. A Victorian Haunting Experience comes to the Stone Arch, a breathtaking 1890's renovated church with sumptuous stained glass and vaulted ceilings. Now celebrating its third year in Michigan, this unique event evokes the romance and mystery of the past.
"The Victorian era was a time of curiosity and discovery, and people turned that energy to investigating the spirit world as well." said Amy Williamson, creator of the event. "The Fox Sisters stunned the world in 1848 by claiming they could talk to the dead. Soon people around the world were holding seances, inventing spirit telegraphs, consulting meduims and fortune-tellers, and investigating haunted locales. A Victorian Haunting Experience gives guests a chance to experience those fascinating times."
"Funeral and mourning customs were evolving at a breakneck pace as well." adds Paul Kemner, a researcher and funeral car collector, joining the A Victorian Haunting Experience this year. "The Victorians developed an obsession for the subject, and their attitudes were astoundingly different from ours. Cemeteries changed from the old crowded church yard to beautiful park-like affairs. Instead of simple tombstones, elaborate monuments became fashionable. They often contain symbolic clues to the life of the person buried there, if you know how to decode them!"
Guests of the event will hear spine-tingling tales of local ghosts, experience the first paranormal investigation of Stone Arch, and hear about Victorian funerals, death rites, and mourning rituals. They will also have a peek at spine tingling postmortem photography, hair art, and mourning jewelry. Victorian tea will be served, and the future will be revealed within the leaves. A live Seance (with gallery readings) is also featured.
For those who like to dress up, a costume contest will be held, with special prizes for Victorian garb and steampunk Victorian science fiction costumes. Light refreshments will also be served.
A few select guests can experience a Victorian wine tasting! It was proper etiquette for every gentleman to have wine at his table whenever he invited guests and the Upper Class Victorians drank mainly wine and ate simple foods such as cheese and bread. In keeping with this tradition, the Spotted Dog Winery (located just a few haunting steps from Stone Arch) will be host to a spooktacular wine taste testing. The winery will also be creating special label vinos for the Victorian Haunting Experience attendees to purchase! Come sip our haunting brew of wine and partake in a cocktail hour fit for an upper class Victorian!
