ABC Life Literacy Canada And The Canadian Short Screenplay Competition Team Up To Tackle Literacy For Life

The Third Annual Canadian Short Screenplay Competition (CSSC) - the most prestigious short film script contest in Canada - is thrilled to announce a new charitable partnership with ABC Life Literacy Canada.

The alliance with ABC Life Literacy Canada, a non-profit organization that inspires Canadians to increase their literacy skills, will see the donation of one dollar for every CSSC entry received in the competition year from around the globe for ABC Life Literacy Canada.

"When I was looking for a charity to partner with for our third year, I heard about some of the activities ABC Life Literacy Canada had planned during Family Literacy Day 2010 and I knew right then on the spot that we had to team up with them," says CSSC Founder and Producer, David Cormican, on the new relationship between the two organizations.

Since 2008, the CSSC has raised over $4,000 for charities across Canada.

"We're delighted by this opportunity to partner with CSSC and their contest which celebrates writing. Writing is an essential skill that we all need to practice on a daily basis," commented Margaret Eaton, ABC Life Literacy Canada president. "This contribution will support our Family Literacy Day activities which encourage children and parents to spend at least 15 minutes enjoying a learning activity every day."

The CSSC see entries from a worldwide audience with the winner receiving $2,500 cash, an Apple iPad, accreditation to attend the Yorkton Film Festival in May 2011, a produced short film based on their written screenplay and industry exposure.

While no officially co-planned activities have been announced for Family Literacy Day 2011 between the two organizations, when asked about the prospect of such events, Cormican mentioned "we are looking into ways in which we can cross-promote the significance and impact of that day."

Family Literacy Day takes place each year on January 27. For more information on the day, including planned activities and resources, please visit www.FamilyLiteracyDay.ca. The CSSC accepts entries to their short film script contest right up until January 31st, 2011.
