Successful 'Bollywood' Talent Abhishek Chandra Moves Beyond Mumbai to Produce Videos in LA: Industry notable follows successful and highly awarded stint to produce 10 music videos for Los Angeles-based singer and rap artist BrothaJes.
LOS ANGELES, June 29, 2018 (Newswire.com) - Hindi cinema, often referred to as “Bollywood,” represents the Hindi-language film industry based in the city of Mumbai, and as such is one of the largest centers of film production in the world. Into this foray has come Abhishek Chandra, a notable presence on the scene who is proving he is here to stay with musical films such as Ishq Nashila, Coco and the upcoming music video for “Booty Beauty.” Chandra has recently announced that he is broadening his perspectives beyond the Mumbai circuit to produce music videos in Los Angeles, USA, with the production of 10 videos for LA-based singer and rapper BrothaJes already confirmed. He also recently collaborated with LA-based Bollywood dance troupe Karmagraphy on the musical series Dance with Us - Ishq Nashila 2.0.
“My perspective with regard to my work is now extending beyond the limits set forth by continents,” quips Chandra. “From growing up in Nepal to creating award-winning projects in Mumbai and now to producing videos in LA, my work reflects my journey beautifully. BrothaJes is an incredibly talented artist and I look forward to collaborating on these videos with him; indeed, being that we come from two different worlds, I’m rather excited for this opportunity to bring the best talent from both these worlds together.”
My hope is that my particular style becomes a breath of fresh air for the music video and film industry as it's rare for someone to strike the balance between the worlds of Indian video arts and America's Hollywood flawlessly.
Abhishek Chandra, Filmmaker, Writer and Producer
Abhishek “AB” Chandra, as an Indian-born filmmaker, writer and producer, widely known for his work in the Indian advertising and film industry, with his produced and directed works having been awarded 17 medals in Gold/Silver/Bronze in the prestigious ABBY Awards and OAC India Awards.
As an “industry,” India's take on America's Hollywood is a portmanteau of “Bombay” and “Hollywood” and is part of a larger cinematic scene in India – also known as “Indywood” – which also includes other production centers producing films in alternate Indian languages. Linguistically, the films tend to use a colloquial dialect of “Hindu-Urdu,” or “Hindustani,” mutually intelligible to both Hindi and Urdu speakers; modern films are also increasingly incorporating elements of “Hinglish.”
The scene employs individuals from all parts of India and attracts thousands of aspiring actors and actresses, all hoping for a break in the industry. From models and beauty contestants to television actors, theatre actors and even common people, Mumbai has been fostering the hopes and dreams of becoming a star.
Indian cinema is the world’s largest film industry with regard to film production, with an annual output of 1,986 feature films as of 2017, and its version of Hollywood is its largest film-producing machine with some 364 Hindi films produced annually as of 2017.
“My hope is that my particular style becomes a breath of fresh air for the music video and film industry as it’s rare for someone to strike the balance between the worlds of Indian video arts and America's Hollywood flawlessly,” concludes Chandra. “I love musicals – they’re challenging and risky, but it keeps me invested in my art form and constantly pumps up my excitement level … and with no risk, we cannot achieve any gain.”
