ACAC Unveils Moisture Control Certifications

New Programs for environmental professionals aim to help developers, builders and facility managers.

The American Council for Accredited Certification (ACAC) has announced two new professional certification programs in moisture control consulting:  the Council-certified Moisture Control Investigator (CMCI)  and Council-certified Moisture Control Consultant (CMCC).

Individuals with field experience in moisture control during building design, construction and maintenance are encouraged to apply for certification by visiting the ACAC website.  The CMCI/CMCC examination is now available at secure proctoring centers throughout the US, Canada and overseas.

The CMCI and CMCC programs are designed for individuals involved in building design, construction and maintenance who consult on moisture control issues.  CMCIs and CMCCs work in a variety of settings, including residential, commercial, industrial and governmental facilities.

“Moisture control is the key to managing all sorts of indoor air quality issues,” said Charlie Wiles, ACAC executive director. “A certified moisture control consultant can help developers, builders and facility managers prevent moisture problems before they develop into something bigger.”

The CMCI requires two years of verifiable field experience in activities related to moisture control.  The CMCC requires eight years experience. Candidates for either certification must also pass a psychometrically rated, closed-book examination developed by the ACAC certification board.  In addition, they must recertify every two years to keep pace with changes in the field of moisture control consulting.

Like other ACAC certifications, the CMCI and CMCC programs are compliant with national accreditation guidelines published by the Council for Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB).
