Admiral Video Chosen as First Ever Supplier of Pylon Cameras at Super Bowl
Lancaster, NY, February 1, 2016 (Newswire.com) - CBS Sports and the National Football League (NFL) have selected Admiral Video, LLC to supply their “Pylon Cam” system (patent pending) for Super Bowl 50. This will be the first ever deployment of pylon cameras at a Super Bowl and will offer historically unavailable views of action near the end zones.
Admiral Video was one of only two companies the NFL selected to test pylon cameras during the 2015 regular season. The company provided the system for CBS and the NFL Network on their Thursday Night Football telecasts. Regular season games saw four of the orange dual-camera pylons positioned on the goal lines. For the AFC Championship Admiral Video doubled the number of cameras and covered the lines around the back of the end zones. Super Bowl 50 will also have 16 pylon-based cameras to give fans, officials, coaches, and players the ultimate view of the end zone.
Pylon Cam was conceived as an advanced application of their FiOPS Point of View camera in late 2014 and improvements have continued during the testing period. Flexibility and player safety have been the company’s primary concern during development. Additional benefits include high reliability, remotely adjustable video parameters and the ability to change lenses without disassembling the pylon. Currently the system is installed on a “per game” basis. Development of a permanent installation system is well under way and Admiral Video is currently offering this exciting new angle to interested facilities.
“To get to the world’s largest sporting stage in such a short period of time is humbling” said Paul Halsey the President of Admiral Video. “I am extremely grateful to the NFL and CBS Sports for putting their trust in our company”. Halsey has been involved in many Super Bowls in the past 30 years but this will be his first as a Vendor.
