Affordable Health Care Demystified
Online, October 2, 2013 (Newswire.com) - A 2012 Census Bureau report revealed that 15.4 percent of people were uninsured. In real numbers—this equates to 48 million people. A 2008 study from the American College of Physicians reported that the uninsured are less likely than those with health insurance to receive care for chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. The uninsured are more likely to skip medications, use the emergency department, and be hospitalized. Prior to the Affordable Care Act, insurance companies could turn away 129 million Americans with pre-existing conditions. Over the last decade, health insurance premiums have more than doubled and insurance company profits have soared while the number of Americans with health insurance has declined.
The primary goal of the Affordable Care Act is to make access to health care more accessible and affordable for many Americans. Tonight, Michelle Alexander, founder and creator of A Gurlz Guide on Air will talk with Market Place Certified Agent, Shannon Roberson about how individuals and families can get enrolled into the Health Care Exchange in their states.
