AgilData Launches Free Gibbs MySQL Scalability Advisor Service at Percona Live
Santa Clara, CA, April 20, 2016 (Newswire.com) - At Percona Live 2016 this week, AgilData launched a new tool to help MySQL developers and DBAs prepare to scale their MySQL with a free online service providing a deep analysis of their application queries, schema and database performance. The Gibbs MySQL Scalability Advisor, allows users to capture a live stream of queries that are then analyzed by experts at AgilData. The analyzer looks at overall database performance, scaling ability, and provides a detailed performance report, including recommendations such as sharding.
“We believe that it’s time for a simple, free solution to help MySQL developers understand database performance, query and schema optimization,” said Dan Lynn, CEO of AgilData. “With the Gibbs service, we provide deep insights with expert review of MySQL databases that typically costs thousands of dollars - all for free.”
AgilData, maker of the database sharding solution dbShards, has provided similar services for over five years to paying customers. The reports are highly insightful to developers and DBAs, of all experience levels, as they seek to diagnose slow performance, plan for scale and discover new performance optimization opportunities. MySQL operators can use these findings to test application changes, plan for sharding and make adjustments to ensure optimal database performance as their application and data grow.
“The Gibbs MySQL Advisor service has been years in the making,” said Andy Grove, AgilData’s Co-Founder and Chief Architect. “We originally designed our analyzer software as a paid service which required formal engagements, but realized we could largely automate the process and provide real value to the MySQL community, whether they are using our dbShards solution or not.”
Gibbs MySQL Advisor is a simple two-step process. Users first sign-in to the service and download the new Gibbs Spyglass data capture tool. Gibbs Spyglass is an open source tool based on the Rust programming language. It runs passively on an application server, sniffing all application traffic to the MySQL database. Once a critical mass of data is captured, users then upload the Spyglass output to the Gibbs service. Results are returned within 48 hours, providing a detailed analysis of weaknesses and opportunities for improvements.
“Other companies in the industry provide similar services, but no one has figured out how to make this self-service for free,” said Lynn. “I’m proud of our team and what we’ve built. As we learn more about the challenges MySQL operators face we will continue to update the tool and make it even more powerful.”
