Alpert Family Generational Philanthropy Benefits Families of Southern Florida
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., January 4, 2018 (Newswire.com) - Robert Alpert, son of Ferd and Gladys Alpert, continues the generational focus on community philanthropy with the initial gift which caused the formation of the “Alpert Jewish Family & Children's Service of Palm Beach County, Inc. (AJFCS).” Established in 1974 as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization to provide non-denominational counseling, crisis intervention, family life education and social service assistance to individuals and families living in the Palm Beach County area, the foundation has grown to 200 professional and administrative personnel today, providing services to the community across 12 silos of community service and welfare. AJFCS has grown significantly since formation and manages an annual budget in excess of $12 million to serve the community.
Most notably the AJFCS opened a group home for developmentally disabled adults in the fall of 1999 and another one in the fall of 2000. Among the many services the agency provides are information and referral, counseling and support groups, geriatric and child psychiatry, guardianship, case management and companions for the elderly, a domestic abuse program, children’s services, a mentoring program, and residential services for adults with special needs. The agency’s mission incorporates specialized services for the Jewish community, including a project that addresses the unique needs of Holocaust survivors.
My mission for the AJFCS is to continue the commitment of community service and care that my father Ferd was known for and which my mother Gladys is passionate about, a legacy of service inspired by my father.
