Kim Covington is a weekend anchor at KPNX Channel 12 News in Arizona. She began in television news in Springfield, Missouri where she exposed a dark secret the city had hidden for nearly a century, the 1906 mob lynching on the city's public square, which changed the face of Springfield. The series earned Covington more than a dozen awards including Missouri and Arkansas Associated Press Awards. "Ebony in an Ivory Tower" was later broadcasted on PBS. At KPNX (A Gannett Company), she began one of the markets most popular franchises, "School Solutions."
Her career has spanned over several regions and market sizes in the country. She has covered everything from major natural disasters to politics, crime and courts to consumer and education issues and much in between.
Covington is best known for how she connects to viewers through her creative, informative and emotional storytelling. That distinction has earned her three Emmy Awards, Best of Gannett awards and a host of others. She recently received the Judge Jean Williams Community Service Award, the Arizona Association of School Public Relations Award and the Education Visionary Award.
Covington has a bachelor of journalism degree from University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism and is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, Mothers of Preschoolers. Kim is a 25-year member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
