American Homeowner Preservation Sponsors SOCAP 2017
Chicago, IL, October 11, 2017 (Newswire.com) - American Homeowner Preservation (“AHP”) is sponsoring SOCAP17, an impact investing conference in San Francisco, this week. The event’s tenth edition coincides with impact investing’s and AHP’s tenth birthday.
AHP is a social impact investment fund which purchases distressed mortgages at deep discounts from banks and other lenders and then shares the discounts with families to keep them in their homes. According to CEO Jorge Newbery, AHP helps families and communities across America mitigate the negative consequences of foreclosure.
“We’re delighted to sponsor SOCAP this year,” Newbery said. “SOCAP, AHP and impact investing all began at the outset of the Great Recession and have grown up making the world a better place. I am thrilled to see that SOCAP has become the industry’s leading event.”
SOCAP began in 2008 with the purpose of “bringing together entrepreneurs and investors interested in making positive social impact with their businesses,” according to program curator Lindsay Smalling. The event has evolved into “the largest impact investing capital markets gathering in the world.” The first conference was attended by over 1,000 people; this year that number is expected to triple.
AHP began in 2008 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit with the mission of keeping families at risk of foreclosure in their homes. Over time, AHP has evolved into an investment fund fueled by crowdfunding.
In 2016, the Securities and Exchange Commission qualified AHP’s 2015A+ fund to offer under Regulation A+, which enables both non-accredited and accredited investors to participate. “To make AH P accessible to as many as possible, the minimum investment is just $100,” shared Newbery. “Ultimately, that’s what impact investing is: people investing to help other people. SOCAP is where we all connect.”
SOCAP17 takes place October 10-13, 2017 at the Fort Mason Center in San Francisco, California. Visit: http://socialcapitalmarkets.net/socap17/
