Amplify, Inc Discusses Team Building Best Practices
Pittsburgh, PA, May 6, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Korey, Amplify, Inc’s director of operations, described this process. “While our current approach is working, we believe we can enhance our team-building plans. Therefore, we’re looking at understanding what constitutes a high-functioning work group and how we can develop our team further.”
Amplify, Inc has always had a team-oriented culture. “Teamwork is one of our core values,” said Korey. “This sets the tone for our operations. We stress the importance of collaboration and respecting everyone’s contributions. When team members believe they are valued, it creates a positive work environment. This doesn’t happen without effort.”
"Teamwork is one of our core values,"
Korey, Director of Operations
To make this a reality, Korey stated that managers should practice the three C’s of communication: clear, concise, and consistent. “Your team cannot function effectively if everyone has a different understanding of the firm’s overall goals and objectives,” he said. “At Amplify, Inc, we like to think of our team like an orchestra. If everyone is playing off a different page, how will it sound? The answer is: terrible. Everyone has to be on the same page and listen to each other in order to create a perfect piece. Leaders can make sure this is happening by communicating the same information to everyone.”
One of the most important components to team cohesion is goal setting. “Your team members should know both their individual goals and the firm’s overall objectives,” Korey added. “Encourage them to work together to help each other raise the bar. The message has to be that they all win together. If it’s every person for his or her self, associates start to compete against each other. This leaves just a group of people who don’t really like each other sharing space. Companies who get into that position don’t do as well in the long run.”
Amplify, Inc Managers Discuss Best Practices in Team Building
It takes effort to nurture and sustain a strong group of people. Korey noted that Amplify, Inc’s managers are continually enhancing their team-building plans. “There is no room for complacency in our firm,” he said. “This goes for training and team-bonding exercises. We frequently change what we’re offering so it’s fresh, unique, and meaningful.”
Korey noted that the best practice is to decide the objective first, then find the exercise. “Everything you do should be geared toward a specific outcome. For example, you might want to improve brainstorming skills, or collaboration on a project. In this case, you’d want an exercise in which small groups collaborate to design or build a model,” he said. “Make sure your team knows up front what you want them to gain from the experience. At the end, gather feedback for future improvements. You may even want to put measurements in place in your company’s plan to see how effective this is.”
“Remember that your team is your company’s greatest asset,” Korey concluded. “Whatever effort you invest in building your team is what you will receive in return.”
