An Open Letter From a US Army Veteran: Stop the Saudi Coalition Massacres in Yemen

In less than four weeks, there have been 2,500 Saudi air strikes on Yemen, destroying more than 25% of the nation's infrastructure, injuring or killing 6,000 innocent people, and forcing half a million people to flee. This is rapidly becoming a genocide, and if it is not halted it will have other serious consequences.

This is rapidly becoming a genocide, and if it is not halted it will have other serious consequences.

Yemen is known to be a safe haven for al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), and several attacks on American soil have been launched from there. If Yemen is destroyed it will have a severe impact on our national security, as it will become a breeding ground for terrorists.

The geopolitical changes in the Middle East in the form of the Arab Spring, the Syrian civil war, the instability in Libya, and the growth of ISIS have created the perfect environment for recruiting jihadists and causing major humanitarian catastrophes in the region.

I was born in Yemen, so I know the country. As an American citizen and a US Army veteran, my first allegiance is to the United States.

Best regards:

Yoseph Alwan
