Online, February 28, 2013 (Newswire.com) - During the NBA All-Star Weekend in Houston, Texas, a distinguished group of sports professionals convened at the BSAA Executive Fireside Chat on Saturday, February 16, 2013.
Hosted by BSAA Chairman and CEO, Andre Farr, the Executive Fireside Chat brought to light the need for African Americans in sports and entertainment to take control of how they are viewed in the media. The event was attended by some of the most influential and renowned executives in the sports industry, including BDA sports agent Bill Duffy, CSC owner Damon Zumwalt, Sr. V.P. of the Washington Redskins Tony Wyllie, and Shadow League's Keith Clinkscales. Other prominent attendees and members of the BSAA were President and CEO of HillDay Public Relations, Inc. Argentina James, custom clothier Woody Wilson, Chevrolet Dealership Owner Pam Rodgers, and Bishops Derek Triplett and Kevin Long, amongst others.
The BSAA understands that reputation management, image, and PR are important aspects of professional athletes and entertainers' careers that must be carefully managed with defined goals and outcomes. "We don't control our news enough, not just the good news, but the bad news," says Keith Clinkscales.
The group discussed how to create a platform that sets a clear path to reconstructing the African American image and position in the sports and entertainment industries, and which resources are most effective in the process. "If we define success then we all understand what success is" explains CEO of HillDay Public Relations, Argentina James.
BSAA's Chairman & CEO, Andre Farr, emphasized the importance of African Americans enhancing how we work together, "We should look to African American media outlets first when offering exclusive stories on our athletes and entertainers, therefore allowing us to improve the positive imaging these entertainers and athletes are having on our community".
Other important topics that completed the discussion were the implementation of professional event management and security, the BSAA Chaplaincy Program, and the BSAA 2014 forecast.
