Anne Nydam to Exhibit Artwork at Roslindale Open Studios
Online, November 2, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Artist and author Anne E.G. Nydam will be showing her work on November 5 and 6, 2011 as part of Roslindale Open Studios. Nydam is known for her original relief block prints featuring animals, plants, illustrations of nursery rhymes and fairy tales, industrial scenes, and all sorts of "interesting things." On display will be Nydam's most recent works, including "Curled up With a Good Book," "Screech Owl," "Time Flies," and "Underwood (1923)."
All of her prints are made from either wood or rubber blocks. After sketching a design, she carves away all the portions of the block that are to remain white in the finished print. Everything left uncarved will become the color of the ink. After carving, she rolls ink onto the block, lays down paper on top, and uses the back of a wooden spoon to transfer the ink to the paper. Nydam's work is made in very limited editions, and since each piece is individually hand printed, every one is unique.
In addition to her original art, Nydam's books will also be available to browse. Among them are "Amazing, Beguiling, Curious," an alphabet book of twenty-six fascinating animals illustrated with block prints, and "The Bad Advice of Grandma Hasenfuss," a hilarious yet thoughtful take on dealing with bullying. Nydam is also the author of the luminous fantasy "Otherworld Series" for sixth graders through adults, which opens with "Song Against Shadow," a quarter-finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards. Visitors will even be able to ask Nydam about "Kate and Sam and the Cheesemonster," the third book in the popular "Kate and Sam Adventures," due out next year.
In different ways, all Nydam's books and art celebrate curiosity, adventure, and creativity. For more information about Anne Nydam's work, visit nydamprints.com. For more information about Roslindale Open Studios, including a map and locations, go to the Roslindale Open Studios web site.
