Online, May 4, 2014 (Newswire.com) - For Melissa and Tom Stubblefield, one business owners' retirement created a new career path for the couple.

The owners of Aberdeen Acres Pet Resort & Spa are living their dream by running their own pet boarding facility in Stephenson, near Winchester, Virginia. This month, the Stubblefield's celebrate the opening of Aberdeen Acres Pet Resort & Spa, which specializes in boarding, grooming and training for dogs, cats and birds/small pets.

When the Stubblefield's realized that the owner of Aberdeen Acres Pet Care Center was considering retiring, they seized the opportunity to purchase the facility. Situated on a plot of five acres, the facility features spacious, climate-controlled indoor canine suites with large outdoor areas, grassy outdoor play areas, a quiet spacious indoor/outdoor cattery for felines and exotics, an indoor playroom for inclement weather, Spa services and a really fun agility course for dogs and their owners.

To run Aberdeen Acres Pet Resort & Spa, Melissa retired from her 25+ year career in the IT field while Tom maintains his full-time job, chipping in on holidays, busy weekends and on maintenance. The couple discovered that they had made a major change of pace and priorities with this new lifestyle, but just the change they were looking for and are now happy to be caring for the lives of animals.

Both Tom and Melissa grew up with a love for animals. They both grew up on farms with horses, cats, dogs, hamsters, fish, birds and even an iguana. For the past 18 years, they have always had a menagerie of dogs and cats, the majority being rescues with health issues. They currently have 4 dogs and 1 cat of their own. Their one dog Josie, who Melissa rescued while volunteering with a shelter on vacation, suffers from a seizure disorder and another of their dogs, Klaus, suffers from Irritable Bowel Disease.

Running the facility is the new priority for the Stubblefield's. Melissa says, "We plan to improve Aberdeen Acres Pet Resort & Spa in more than just material ways. With hard work and labor of love, we want to make Aberdeen Acres Pet Resort & Spa a clean, warm, loving environment that is more like 'Your pet's home away from home.' Other staff members at the Aberdeen Acres Pet Resort & Spa include facility manager Laura Brown. With many years of experience, she keeps the facility running smoothly. Rounding out the team are three (3) technicians who provide the customary care of all pets at the facility as well as basic grooming needs.
