Online, May 13, 2013 (Newswire.com) - AposhA Cafe and Hookah Lounge May Not Exist in Troy, Alabama
Passersby on Love Street in Alabama might notice the clanging and banging sounds of a construction site in a soon to be Hooka Lounge.
The empty space is the future site of AposhA Cafe and Hookah Lounge, if the Troy City Council doesn't ban the use of water pipes for smoking tobacco in public places. Describing the atmosphere that Rafael Culver, Josh Rawlinson, and Richard Jones hope to create, the lounge will have a concept that will generate revenues through the sale of flavored shisha, alcoholic beverages, specialty coffees, espressos, and pastries.
On May 14th Troy City Council will meet to discuss whether or not to ban the use of water pipes for smoking tobacco in public places. Council Johnny Witherington stated that he will introduce an amendment to the city's smoking ordinance that would ban the use of water pipes in public places.
Located close to the future lounge and cafe is Troy University, there is a large base of international Middle Eastern students from areas where hookah originated from, in addition the surrounding areas of Troy/Tuskegee/Montgomey also have many college students. AposhA Cafe and Hookah Lounge hopes to bring a calm and relaxed place for students to study or business people to meet. AposhA Cafe and Hookah Lounge will also hope to be a hot spot for fundraising projects. Troy University's community service, intramural, and social groups strive to find innovative ways to raise money. Groups can "sponsor" a night at AposhA, driving as many of their members, friends, and family to the location for a 10-20% profit of the night's sales.
Local residents have positive comments on the new lounge "I believe, that AposhA lounge will have a different setting, a place where people come to relax after work and network in the evening. Our students need to have a choice where they can dress up and start preparing for "business after hours" type setting once they graduate."
AposhA Cafe and Hookah Lounge also have the future plans to support the local Community and environment in Troy. AposhA Cafe and Hookah Lounge will "Adopt-A-Highway", Love St, in order to increase the aesthetics and cleanliness of downtown Troy. Alongside maintaining Love St, AposhA Cafe and Hookah Lounge will have recycle bins accessible to all customers and staff. The recent agreement to discuss the banning of water pipe use due to "serious public health hazard" by Troy City Council on May 14th may delay the development of AposhA Cafe and Hookah Lounge. Jay R Aguayo has set up an online petition to combat the future amendment here at, http://www.thepetitionsite.com/m/713/036/892/no-ban-on-hookahs-in-troy-al/.
Troy's City Council meeting begins at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, at City Hall.
