Apple Watch 2 Fail? Women Prefer Rolex
More than 72% of Rich Single Dudes Claim They Prefer Apple Watch Over Rolex; Women More Impressed by Rolex
San Francisco , January 11, 2016 (Newswire.com) - LUXY App (www.onluxy.com), the dating site that caters to the 1% crowd, has surveyed more than 1,400 wealthy men and women on the subject of “Personal Technology & Dating.” LUXY App asked its members about their personal preferences, with questions like: Which is more impressive on a date? Apple Watch or Rolex? Men and women seem to have totally different views of these brands and — at least outside of Silicon Valley — Apple isn’t always the most impressive.
Since launching in 2014, the LUXY dating app has witnessed more than 500K downloads in less than six months. During this time, thousands of people have identified their luxury brand preferences on their dating profiles — and LUXY has compiled and ranked those luxury brands preferred by our wealthy single members. LUXY App has also surveyed its members directly to learn about “Personal Technology & Dating” with all the hype surrounding Apple.
With the launch of Apple Watch 2 rumored to be realized in March this year, it could follow the same underwhelming response as the first. The BBC reported that 19% of Britons would purchase one smart gadget in 2016, costing no more than £150.
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) showcased new smartwatch FitBit. Chief executive, James Park said there will be a “heavy focus on personalisation” and fitness, costing just over half of the cheapest Apple Watch. FitBit’s simplicity and price could be key to rivalling Apple. But are smart watches really what the customer wants? LUXY posed this question to the elite 1%.
Time Will Tell? Apple Watch vs. Rolex
LUXY’s first interesting finding was that rich single men clearly prefer Apple Watch over Rolex (72% versus 28%). Since its launch in April last year — after months of hype — it’s been hard to ignore the Apple Watch. It only costs a few hundred dollars on the low end so why do our wealthy male millionaires favor the latest iDevice over the more traditional, classic Rolex watch? “Certainly our pop culture-obsessed generation can’t get enough of the latest gadges and gizmos ...and celebs have been seen wearing them all over town (thanks to free watches from Apple),” wrote Marie C, PR Representative for LUXY App. “Even though Rolex watches tend to hold their value, it’s not clear whether an Apple Watch will even be relevant in 12-18 months.”
What Do Women Like To See on Their Man? Hint: Not Apple.
It turns out, women feel much differently about things; nearly 80% of females surveyed selected Rolex over Apple Watch. Why? While men may see Apple as disrupting the old, established, status-driven watch industry, women seem to appreciate the status surrounding Rolex?
43% of women said they would rather date a man “wearing a Rolex” instead of the most expensive 18-karat rose gold Apple Watch edition. “We predict the Apple Watch 2 will be another flop” said Marie, “consumers get excited because it’s come from Apple. But how many people do you see wearing the first Apple Watch now?”.
More Brand Preference Surveys To Come
LUXY will be re-visiting these brand preferences on a regular basis and our next brand preference rankings will focus on fashion and travel. Here’s a bit more about the LUXY app itself.
ABOUT LUXY APP: ’TINDER MINUS THE POOR PEOPLE’
“It works just like Tinder,” said the CEO of LUXY “With one big exception: Our app is for wealthy people only. It’s basically Tinder minus the poor people.”
It was really just a matter of time. With Tinder, Grindr and others carving out a niche for themselves in the world of high-speed digital dating, LUXY has launched to work in the same way.
It’s Tinder without low-income dating prospects. In fact, the average income of male users on LUXY is over $200k.
Like Tinder, based on the results of potential candidates, the app allows the user to anonymously like or pass them by swiping or tapping. If two users like each other then it results in a "Match" and LUXY introduces the two users and opens a chat.
Who doesn’t want to date somebody both attractive and wealthy? Privately, we all know we prefer to have both of these things. One user said: “Tinder was pretty awesome when it came out, but there’s a lot of riff raff on there. [I] would rather know the guy has a couple bucks in his pocket.”
“With the rise of high-speed digital dating, it’s about time somebody introduced a filter to weed out low-income prospects by neighborhood,” said the CEO of LUXY.
Another user wrote: “Does this mean that we’re all going to flock to Beverly Hills on a Friday night to make a match? Maybe, that’s not a bad idea!”
