Application Security, Inc. Announces 2009 Database Security Video Smackdown Champion

Filmmakers Micah Sherman, Dan Hirshon and Joe Lift Capture Grand Prize for 'Awesome Database Security Contest Submission Video'

NEW YORK - Application Security, Inc., the leading provider of database security, risk and compliance (SRC) solutions for the enterprise, today announced that filmmakers Micah Sherman, Dan Hirshon and Joe Lift have been selected as the grand prize winners of the 2009 Database Security Video Smackdown for their short film 'Awesome Database Security Contest Submission Video.'

The comedy chronicles the exploits of a team of entrants submitting their Database Security Video Smackdown submission, only to be the victim of identity thieves who claim their prize. The film won for its overall creativity, originality and laugh-out-loud humor.

"This year's submissions were tremendous examples of the power or viral video," said Thom VanHorn, vice president, global marketing, Application Security, Inc. "The winning submission as well as the other entries not only illustrated the concept that database security is important, but did so in a manner that exhibited humor and creative expression. Due to the high quality of the entries, our judges had a very difficult time selecting a winner."

'Awesome Database Security Contest Submission Video' beat out some tough competition for the $1,500 grand prize in a contest that was not decided until the final judge's vote. We thank our panel of judges that consisted of leading IT Security influencers Rich Mogull and Adrian Lane of Securosis; Andrew Jaquith of Forrester Research; Trent Henry of Burton Group; and Jon Oltsik of Enterprise Strategy Group.

The runner-up film 'Database Security Smackdown Interviews,' by Mark Poisella and Jeff Maroun will receive a $500 consolation prize. 'Database Security Smackdown Interviews' features a tongue-in-cheek set of interviews demonstrating a lack of understanding of database security. Two additional finalists who will also receive $500 prizes are Josh Folan, who submitted the edgy comedic drama 'Club Database,' and Jonathan Mann, who submitted the original music video 'A Humble Plea for Database Security.'

All film the entries can be viewed on the Database Security Video Smackdown Web site, as well as the Facebook page, the Video Smackdown YouTube Channel and the Application Security, Inc. Web site.
