April 24 is Arbor Day Go Plant a Tree New Jersey!
National Arbor Day is April 24, 2015; go outside and Plant Something!
Bordentown, NJ, April 23, 2015 (Newswire.com) - National Arbor Day is April 24, 2015; go outside and Plant Something! That’s the message the New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association (NJNLA) is spreading via its Plant Something™ website (www.plantsomethingnj.org), which provides a wealth of information on how to plant something, as well as an animated PSA for Arbor Day (Insert URL).
According to the National Arbor Day Foundation’s website: Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care. As a formal holiday, it was first observed in 1872, in Nebraska, but tree-planting festivals are as old as civilization.
"Here in NJ, we've been celebrating Arbor Day since 1949, when the NJ State Legislature designated the last Friday in April as the official day to honor trees and the people who take care of them."
Dominick Mondi, Executive Director, NJNLA
It’s an old Native American tradition that when you take something from the Earth, you must put something back. This year, the focus of Earth Day 2015 will be a global give back to Earth with a goal to plant one billion seeds/trees.
“Here in NJ, we’ve been celebrating Arbor Day since 1949, when the NJ State Legislature designated the last Friday in April as the official day to honor trees and the people who take care of them,” said Dominick Mondi, executive director of the NJNLA.
Trees provide numerous benefits including higher property values, increased health and well being, and improved environmental quality -- not to mention the fun and satisfaction that comes from planting a tree and watching it grow. Many consumers, especially new homeowners, may not be aware of these benefits, but the NJNLA is hoping to change that with this timely reminder for Arbor Day.
The Plant Something website is a resource to help people who might not be your typical gardeners and provides numerous consumer resources including a NJ Retail Nurseries, Professional Landscaper and Garden Centers Guide.
The New Jersey Nursery and Landscape Association is a trade association representing the nursery, greenhouse, landscape, and retail garden center industries in the Garden State. The NJNLA’s goal is to advance the commercial horticulture industry through networking, education, promotion and advocacy. For more information visit www.njnla.org.
