ARC Products, LLC and Med Sled® Announce Partnership with Children's Medical Center Dallas

Dallas hospital updates emergency equipment for more effective evacuation capability

ARC Products, LLC, manufacturer and innovator of the Med Sled®, an emergency evacuation device, is proud to announce its recent partnership with Children's Medical Center Dallas (Children's). The hospital selected ARC Products to provide a safe environment for its patients and staff. Children's initial purchase includes 16 standard sleds, along with toddler and infant foam inserts to outfit the Dallas campus, a multi-storied facility licensed for 559 beds.
"Med Sled® has given us a product we feel comfortable sharing with our staff," said Dana Suell, Emergency Preparedness Manager for Children's Medical Center Dallas. "The set-up and collapsibility of the Med Sled® is so user-friendly. We really feel it will improve our evacuation process because of its durability and ease."

A hospitalist physician from the Legacy campus recommended the Med Sled® and some investigation proved that the innovative product would meet the hospital's requirements.

In a community-wide emergency such as an tornado or other natural disaster, first responders may not arrive for hours or even days, depending on the severity of the situation. This is especially important for facilities, such as hospitals that have a high volume of immobile people on-site at all times.

"Children's recognized the importance of emergency evacuation for its patients and we are pleased to provide them with an advanced product that is easy to use," said Clifford Adkins, President of ARC Products, LLC. "We are glad that they have chosen to incorporate the Med Sled® into their emergency plans. The Med Sled® is the most effective device for evacuating buildings like schools, workplaces, nursing homes and hospitals such as Children's. People need to take action and question the level of preparedness for the facilities in which they spend most of their time."

The evacuation sled allows a single person to evacuate an individual in a quick, stable fashion using the roll and drag method. The sled permits non-professionals to evacuate an injured or immobile person when immediate response is required. The Med Sled® was designed to operate in both single-story and multi-storied facilities, down a flight of stairs or over uneven terrain such as debris-filled hallways. The compact sled weighs less than 10 pounds and rolls up neatly into a store-and-carry bag. Suell said that she is also very happy that the Med Sled® is decon-capable, which is critical in a hospital or healthcare setting.

As part of the overall goal of comprehensive emergency preparedness, ICU staff members at Children's have are training on the use of the Med Sled®. Training is planned in the near future for the rest of the hospital's staff, and a disaster training exercise using the Med Sled® is scheduled for late 2010.
