Are You a Psychologist Interested in Telehealth? Don't Miss This APA Symposium About the Future of Psychology

The 120th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association (APA) will be held in Orlando, Florida this August, and this year psychologists will discover a growing number of telehealth training and networking opportunities. Nationally reno

Dr. Marlene Maheu, Executive Director of the TeleMental Health Institute, Inc., has been a pioneer in the telehealth industry with a focus on research and development in telemental health since 1994. She is very pleased that the American Psychological Association (APA) is increasing training options for psychologists who are interested in learning more about the numerous critical aspects of providing telemental health services. Maheu stated, "It is essential that we psychologists take the time to consider not only where will will be in the future, but how to get there now. This presentation will focus on practical, how-to steps for the interested psychologist who sees that technology is our ticket to prosperous practices in the 21st Century."

Dr. Maheu will speak at an APA symposium on Sunday, August 5, 2012, entitled Professional Psychology's Future: Policy, Practice, and Training Issues. She seeks to inspire and give direction to psychologists seeking options for using technology to expand their reach to new populations, diversify their income earning power and explore innovative practice models. The symposium will be focused on how to expand the definition of psychology, and concurrently, add options for psychologists to expand the ways in which they can help clients and other psychology consumers benefit from our unique skills sets and knowledge bases.

This presentation will begin with an overview of telepsychology models, including those linking clinic-to-hospital, private office-to-clinic, and private office-to-client's home. It then will address technology as a patient care issue and as a means by which psychology can bring "added value" to therapeutic relationships. Beyond therapy, this presentation will discuss how else to service today's techno-savvy, mobile technology-laden consumer.

The symposium will be held from 8:00 to 9:50AM and will offer 2 CEs. APA attendees can find a detailed online program on the APA Convention website.Participants will also enjoy a catered breakfast.
