Area Ford Dealer Encourages Teens In Columbus To Learn Safe Driving Habits

Online, June 9, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Every summer, a new wave of teenagers hits America's roadways without adequate preparation for the dangers that lurk with every passing mile. Ford's Driving Skills for Life program is striving to arm these fledgling drivers with the knowledge they need to drive safely. Bob Chapman Ford wants its customers to know that this educational effort will appear in Columbus this summer.

Professional instructors will work with young drivers on a closed course at the Manheim Auto Auction in Grove City. Over the course of a half day, participants will learn how to improve their focus in the areas of driver distraction, speed/space management, vehicle handling and hazard recognition.

"This is a time of year when many teens are driving more miles, perhaps to work or summer activities," said Jim Graham, manager, Ford Driving Skills for Life. "Also teens frequently drive with other teens in the vehicle, adding to the risk for these less experienced drivers."

The instructional clinic is open to teens who are between the ages of 15 and 19 and have a driver's license. Only the first 1,200 applicants will be accepted.

Ford Driving Skills for Life is a cooperative effort presented in association with the Ohio Department of Public Safety's Office of Criminal Justice Services, the Governors Highway Safety Association and Westfield Insurance. Events will also be held in Cincinnati and Cleveland.
