Online, June 26, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Arjun Narayananwas all set for the corporate climb after BIMTECH.
With a PGDM in Marketing and HR from BIMTECH -one of the top B-schools in NCR - Arjun put in an year in HDFC bank as a personal banker, followed by an year with Infosys as a recruiter, handling lateral hiring for certain units. And then, out of nowhere, Arjun was bitten by the writing-bug, and gave it all up... or so it seemed.
"It was not as abrupt a switch as it seems. Way back, while still in BIMTECH, I had begun writing on a range of subjects - Politics, Cinema, Theatre and classical art forms. In spite of multiple rejections, my persistence yielded fruits when I was taken on-board The New Indian Express as a regular contributor, during my BIMTECH tenure itself. It was here that I honed my skills in writing. Even after BIMTECH, right through my career at HDFC and Infosys, I continued freelancing for Indian Express."
Having decided to pursue journalism as a full-time occupation, Arjun took up an offer with the Times of India. You can survive in any job, but you can excel only when you are confident and sure of what you are doing... and love what you are doing. Currently, Arjun Narayanan handles Times Property for the Chennai Edition of Times of India, while contributing stories for Times Education and Madras Plus - the cultural supplement of Economic Times, Chennai. If that was not enough writing already, Arjun has two blogs of his own - one dedicated to cinema and the other for general topics like politics, literature and travel.

"Had it not been for the faculty at BIMTECH, I don't think I could've made it to where I am. Their persistence with extra-curricular activities gave me ample opportunities to explore my capabilities. I owe some of my best friends toBIMTECHas well. We still catch up atleast once a week even now."
He believes that his specialisation in Marketing from BIMTECH has been of great value in selling his ideas and stories. Arjun writes stories based on the reports he gathers, after research and interviews. Additionally, he is given the charge of some supplements and features every week for which he decides the content and assigns stories to the journalists and freelancers. It then becomes his sole responsibility to bring out the feature successfully on the given day after editing the copies, giving headlines, and choosing suitable pictures.
"BIMTECH showed me that, when everyone is reading the same textbooks and presenting the same PPTs, there should be something which makes you stand apart. We all have that 'something' in us. It is up to us to identify it.When the entire campus chose corporate internships, my friend and I saw the potential of the times we were interning in. It was the General Elections of 2009, and we chose to intern with a leading national political party. We learnt the management lessons of a lifetime. It opened our eyes to the realities of a nation we never saw. That was a defining moment for me."
