Arvada Covenant Church Is Going Green
Online, January 18, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Arvada Covenant Church is going green by upgrading to more energy efficient lighting and installing a new solar energy system. Combined, these efforts will reduce CO2 emissions by over 140 tons annually, the environmental equivalent of planting 700 trees.
"Arvada Covenant Church has always made Stewardship of God's resources a priority. With our new solar system and upgraded lighting we've taken our commitment to a much higher level," states Ian Thomsen, church administrator. "In addition to a significantly reduced carbon footprint, we hope to serve as a role model in the community at large for conservation, environmental protection, and stewardship of earth's limited resources," adds Thomsen.
The Church's older, inefficient lighting system in the gymnasium was recently upgraded to high efficiency T-8 fluorescent fixtures, resulting in a cost savings of approximately $1000.00 per year.
Separately, the church selected SolarTEK Energy of Denver, Inc. to design and install a 99.36 kW photovoltaic solar energy system. The system will incorporate 432 roof mounted solar PV panels which will produce enough energy to offset a large percentage of the Church's electrical needs. The Church will experience immediate first year estimated energy savings exceeding $10,000.00, with a projected 30 year savings of over $600,000.00.
"The solar lease option is a perfect fit for the Church. They can begin enjoying the financial and environmental benefits of solar energy from day one, with zero capital expenditure," comments Sean Murphy, President of SolarTEK Energy.
The move to solar is a win-win decision. The church will experience an immediate and substantial reduction in energy bills while reducing its dependency on fossil fuels and ensuring a cleaner environment for generations to come.
