Asbestos Dangers in the Home Exposed in New Public Outreach Video
The IAQ Video Network produces the sixth in a series of public outreach videos to educate the community about environmental and indoor air quality (IAQ) issues.
Online, September 21, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Today the IAQ Video network released the 6th in a series of public outreach videos meant to educate families about important indoor air quality issues. Six videos have been produced in the last month covering everything from mold and formaldehyde to radon.
Asbestos is a mineral fiber that in the past was added to many products to strengthen them and to provide heat insulation and fire resistance. The risks of developing lung cancer from asbestos exposure increases with the amount & type of fibers inhaled. Smokers also have an increased risk of lung cancer from inhaling asbestos fibers as compared to nonsmokers. The diseases may not appear until 20 to 30 years after the asbestos exposure occurred.
"When materials that contain asbestos are disturbed, asbestos fibers may be released into the air, which can then inhaled by people," reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network. "This latest video on asbestos dangers in the home is meant to give the public an idea of what to look for to help safeguard their families from asbestos exposure."
