Ascent Classical Receives Unanimous School Board Approval for Authorization Release to Colorado Charter School Institute

Tuesday, May 3, the Mesa County Valley School District 51 board voted 5-0 in support of relinquishing Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction to the Colorado Charter School Institute for authorization to open a new, tuition-free, public charter school for the 2023-24 school year. Ascent Classical will submit its charter school application to CSI later this month.

The unanimous vote echoed more than 20 public comments from local citizens supporting the addition of this high-quality classical education choice in the community. Ascent Classical's proven academic model is implemented at two successful campuses in Windsor and Lone Tree, Colorado, both of which are currently authorized with CSI.

"We are thrilled to see such incredible support from both the community and the school board," said Kim Gilmartin, director of new school development and outreach for Ascent Classical Academies. "This is how it should work - parents show up and speak up for school choice, and the district listens. It was a pleasure working with a collaborative school board that listens to the families and members of their community."

Ascent Classical Academies develop within its students the moral and intellectual skills, habits, and virtues upon which independent, responsible, and joyful lives are built, in the firm belief that such lives are the basis for a free and flourishing republic.

The new campus is planned to open Fall 2023 with grades K-9. Learn more about Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction, express interest in the school, and subscribe for email updates online at grandjunction.ascentclassical.org
