AUB Social and Behavioral Sciences Department Introduces a "Diploma Program in Media Communication"

Online, May 20, 2010 (Newswire.com) - (Beirut, Lebanon)- The American University of Beirut's Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) Department has recently launched a "Diploma Program in Media Communication" that seeks to benefit students who are interested in working in media-related fields. According to the AUB Catalogue, the Diploma program aims to "prepare students to pursue professional careers in media and public relations institutions." It provides both a theoretical and practical learning experience that aims to highlight the role of the media in society.

Dr. Nabil Dajani, the Chairperson of the SBS Department and a professor of media communication courses emphasized the importance of the media program stating that "it is in great demand because the whole world is channeled by the media, the program will be hand in hand in terms of job opportunities."

Since there are few opportunities currently available for AUB students who want to pursue a media studies related career, the newly developed program is a great addition and provides ample career opportunities. One student considering the program stated that "it is an added bonus to any career since media is everywhere." She strongly encourages students to pursue the Diploma regardless of their current major, because "it's a great complement to everything." The program may be pursued by students from any faculty at AUB and can even be pursued after graduation.

According to AUB's Catalogue, the Diploma Program comprises of seven courses (21 credits), two of which are journalism-related, two are a combination of theoretical and practical courses, including Public Relations and Advertising or Communication Campaigns and the remaining three deal with the "role of media in society, media regulations and ethics."
