Auction Evening to Raise Money for Children with Hearing and Visual Impairments
Friends of Griffins is hosting a charity auction evening for children in Bromley with hearing and visual impairments.
Online, June 9, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Charity, Friends of Griffins, is holding an auction evening on Wednesday 27th June 2012 at The Bickley in Chislehurst to raise money for children in Bromley with hearing and visual impairments.
Friends of Griffins was set up last November by a group of local volunteers to provide support and raise money for the Griffins Centre, a specialist centre in Orpington for children with hearing or visual impairments.
Following the success of Friends of Griffins' recent pampering evening, the charity will be holding its next big fundraiser, an Auction Evening and night of entertainment, on June 27th, 7-10.30pm. The evening will see many donated items go under the hammer, including jewellery from Tresor Paris, martial arts equipment from Everlast and Formula One goodies. The charity's patron, international deaf footballer, Jack Harding, will also be attending the event.
There are over 400 children in the Bromley borough with hearing and visual difficulties. The Griffins Centre provides specialist equipment and education, allowing pupils with a sensory impairment to have the best possible access to the curriculum and the life of their school. Yet, despite a dedicated team of volunteers, the recently established charity is struggling to raise the funds it needs to become officially registered.
"Becoming registered is our main goal at the moment," explains Friends of Griffins Chairwoman, Joanne Price-Moxom. "It will open a lot more opportunities for us and allow us to raise funds on a longer-term basis. Simple things like using online donation facilities such as 'Just Giving' and accepting donations from businesses depend on being a registered charity." The charity is currently £3,500 away from its target, and hopes that the upcoming Auction evening will bring them one step closer.
Creative FX, local signage and display specialist, has been supporting the charity by producing logos, banners and marketing material for its events. "The evening's set to be a night of real entertainment," says Sean Davis, Director of Creative FX, "with a buffet, bar and loads of fantastic goodies up for grabs, it's a great opportunity for more people to get involved with the fantastic work Friends of Griffins have been doing and help them reach their goal of becoming a registered charity."
