AUMA actuators have provided robust automation technology capable of withstanding extreme weather conditions for a solar tracking installation 1,700m above sea level in the Swiss mountains.

The photovoltaic installation for energy generation commissioned by electricity supplier Repower is located in Graubuenden, Switzerland. With over 45 year's experience supplying actuators for challenging valve automation applications, AUMA products were identified as suitable for the solar application. A key strength of the actuators is a high level of stability to withstand the harsh climatic conditions of strong winds / snow and low temperatures.

An extensive selection process resulted in TecnoSunSolar AG being awarded the contract for a solution that included electric actuators supplied by AUMA.

Commenting on the capability of AUMA's modular actuators for the solar installation, Thomas Vogel, spokesman for TecnoSunSolar said:

"Outstanding technology, precision of operation and exceptional high levels of co-operation with our R&D department, were decisive factors in choosing AUMA as our actuator partner. The products' high enclosure protection, large temperature range and high quality corrosion protection ensure that the actuators will withstand the challenging weather conditions of the mountain location and fulfil the scheme's requirements."

AUMA electric actuators have been installed to optimally align the installation's 45 trackers towards the sun, both on the horizontal and vertical level.
