Auntie Anne's teams up with the Duggars of TLC's '19 Kids and Counting' to Benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation
Online, February 28, 2012 (Newswire.com) - LANCASTER, PA- Rolling pretzels, greeting fans, and serving lemonade to benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) - the Duggar family of '19 Kids and Counting' did it all at their local Auntie Anne's Pretzel shop in Rogers, Ark., part of the world's largest hand-rolled soft pretzel franchise. Their pretzel-rolling and fundraising adventure will air Tuesday, February 28 at 9:30 p.m. ET on TLC.
The fun-filled day starts off as 17 of the 19 Duggar children and their parents, Michelle and Jim Bob, experience what it's like to run an Auntie Anne's pretzel franchise, from rolling and twisting pretzels, to operating the ovens and serving customers. The children also braved chilly November temperatures to decorate and operate custom built lemonade stands where they competed to raise the most funds for ALSF, a national organization aimed at fighting childhood cancer.
"The Duggars are a truly selfless and giving family, and we were so impressed with their efforts to help support our national charitable partner, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation," said Bob Phillips, owner of the Auntie Anne's at Pinnacle Hills Promenade mall in Rogers, Ark. "We had a blast teaching them about the history of the pretzel, our 24-year-old company, and what goes into operating a small business like ours; it was an experience I'll never forget!"
The Duggar family also interacted with special guests, including brave children battling cancer and Jay Scott, father of ALSF founder Alexandra "Alex" Scott. When Alex, who was diagnosed with cancer just before her first birthday, was four, she opened a lemonade stand in her front yard to raise money to help find a cure for all kids with cancer. While she ultimately lost her life to cancer in 2004, her legacy has since lived on through the Foundation bearing her name.
"Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation is honored to have been introduced to the Duggar family through our charitable partner Auntie Anne's," said Jay Scott, Co-Executive Director of the Foundation. "It was thrilling to see the entire family come together for a friendly lemonade stand competition, and the imperative nature of the cause was certainly evident through the participation of several area children currently battling childhood cancer."
