Australia Foreign Affairs Minister Visits BIMC Hospital in Bali
Online, April 9, 2013 (Newswire.com) - The Senator for New South Wales, Bob Carr, Australia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, toured BIMC Hospital in Nusa Dua, 1 April 2013, as the Australian-owned and managed facility approaches its first anniversary. He was accompanied by Western Australian Senator Glenn Sterle, Chair of the Senate Legislation Rural, Regional Affairs and Transport Committee and the Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Greg Moriarty as well as various members of staff. The Foreign Minister's visit to the hospital is connected to chairing a regional conference of foreign ministers in Nusa Dua in the following days.
Recently, BIMC Hospital has been widely credited with kick-starting medical tourism in Indonesia with drawing most of its patients from Australia, but it has always been Australians who made up the biggest share of patients at BIMC Hospital as the leading international standard 24 hours Emergency and Medical Centre in Bali. Minister Bob Carr expressed his positive surprise when told that already more than 40,000 Australians have been served during BIMC Hospital's almost 15 years of history and also acknowledged BIMC Hospital's role in treating more than one hundred victims of the Bali bombing more than 10 years ago.
