Author of Controversial Debut Novel, Making Appearance at O-CHA in Greenville, SC
Online, October 6, 2013 (Newswire.com) - First-time novelist Elle, whose salacious and controversial new fictionalized memoir, The Fall: An Autobiography of an Alter Ego, has already put the issue of teen dating abuse front and center in the literary world, announced today that she will be partnering with Safe Harbor for a book reading and conversation at O-CHA tea bar in Greenville, SC on Friday, October 15 from 5:30pm-7:30pm to celebrate October being National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Fall is primed to continue to raise eyebrows as New Adult an Adult genre readers are provided a unique insight into the inner workings of an abusive relationship.
The Fall explores dependencies, disorders, and domestic abuse from the vantage point of a young woman, Devon, whose extreme coping mechanisms allow her to endure intense physical and sexual abuse until her mind and body turn against her. Elle, originally from Flat Rock, NC and an alumnus of Clemson University, hopes to not only find success in the literary world but to also call attention to what she calls a "growing and insidious" problem among teens and young adults.
"The Fall was difficult to write for a number of reasons, but I decided to publish it to encourage the conversation about dating abuse that I do not believe is happening sufficiently," said Elle. "I expected that people would talk and that it would make some uncomfortable, but the immense popularity of Fifty Shades of Grey illustrated an interest in, and tolerance of, subject matter that can cause discomfort. The Fall simply tells the story of abuse from the inside, from the point of view so many don't live to tell."
Elle, whose book trailer stars actors Amanda Aardsma and Daniel Sobieray, will be donating a percentage of proceeds from all book sales at the event toward Safe Harbor, and she is partnering with local organizations in various cities on her upcoming tour and continuing to donate to an array of charitable institutions. "One in three girls age 16-24 in the U.S. experiences intimate partner violence and yet two-thirds of these girls stay silent. I have to believe that the topic is not being broached when and how it should be. At the end of the day, The Fall is a story of hope and empowerment, just not a sugar-coated one."
O-CHA tea bar is located at 300 River St #122, Greenville, SC 29601. For more information about Elle or The Fall, to see the book trailer, or to learn more about her upcoming tour, visit www.elletheauthor.com.
